Another belated Six Sentence Sunday and some more writing from my Thunderbirds fic - from Gordon's POV, this time.
Honestly, Dad and his brothers hadn't been too bad about it all - had realised that his recovery would take time and have to be at his pace. They'd even, occasionally, brought up International Rescue around him, like him being part of it wasn't ever in question.
(And god, Gordon really hoped not.)
They did, however, have the habit of not bringing up his injury at all, which was frustrating - and it wasn't like he didn't get why, of course, but it was still annoying when they'd end up avoiding the subject entirely, and not even being subtle about it.
Which was why he was delighted that Sheridan and Tia had arrived because neither of the had ever beat around the bush, and true to form, Sheridan's first words on seeing him were "Gordon! How's the back?"
"Two more weeks and I should be off crutches entirely." He replied cheerfully as she came over - she did hesitate for a second, like she wasn't sure if they're usual hug was off-limits or not, so Gordon stepped forward and looped an arm around her shoulders. "God, it's good to see you."
Honestly the main friendship of this fic was going to be between John and Sheridan, but turns out Gordon's having a bigger part as well.

Another slightly belated WIP Wednesday (I've been rewatching Agent Carter :D) and I've been working on my Thunderbirds WIP which...really is just a few scattered scenes at the moment 😅😅 but I'll kick it into gear eventually, I've just gotta develop the story a bit. I decided to try and start writing some of John's POV during the Starfinder One incident, given that it's his friend co-piloting the thing.
The key thing in his job was professionalism - in fact, it was essential. He was the one to recieve the first calls for help so therefore he had to be the one to remain calm and collected while he gathered the details, to remain composed no matter the situation or how many lives were in danger or what his brothers would be throwing themselves into. He'd even say that he'd honed it to a fine art. Right now though? He was struggling to do so, his hands shaking slightly as he called the Island which he knew wasn't helpful and he had to compose himself- This craft you're flying next week is safe, right? Safe as anything like that can be, John. It's been tested dozens of times and I've been the one to help test it - it'll fly and it'll land just fine. Sheridan had been so confident, had said it with a grin and that familar light in her eyes, the one she always got when she got to fly something like Starfinder, and at the time he'd really believed it. Stupid of him. Almost two years as part of International Rescue - he should know by now that something would always go wrong, and now Starfinder One was plummeting towards the Earth along with his best friend and there wasn't a damn thing he could do to stop it.
There's gonna be a lot of angst in this part, but it'll work out in the end because they always do (it just...shakes a lot of people up for a while, especially because they know Sheridan's not gonna give up being a test pilot even after this, and they wish she'd found out about them in better circumstances.)

It's (belated) Six Sentence Sunday and I have stuff written!!! Mainly snippets as I'm taking a mutuals advice to have a snippets folder - it gets scenes out of my head and prevents my WIP list growing even further and this week I've been writing ones for Thunderbirds and Agent Carter. Firstly from my Thunderbirds one, this scene taking place a few months before International Rescue start business, and five months after Gordon's hydrofoil accident - and Sheridan and Tia have made an impromptu trip to the Island.
"Heya, John."
"Sheridan." His long arms hugged her in return. "Not that I'm not glad to see you, but what are you doing here?"
"You did say I could come anytime," she reminded him, "and I finally managed to get some leave so Tia and I decided to pay a visit."
"Tia's here too?" Scott asked in surprise. "I thought she didn't like flying."
"She doesn't, but...well, I know we visited the hospital sometimes but it's been a while and we've both been worried, so these are extenuating circumstances." Her eyes flicked to John. "How is he, by the way?"
"He's getting there - it's not one of his better days, but he'll be mighty glad to see you two."
Next one is from my Agent Carter snippet - I've been writing the opening scene from Michael's POV, as he goes to send the letters to Kathy in an attempt to stop his employers from doing something terrible.
None of this was supposed to happen. When he’d first agreed to join them he’d truly believed it was necessary, that it was for the greater good, that it was a dangerous set of missions but key to winning the war. One of many such plans, and Michael had gone along with it – the Nazis would stop at nothing, so neither could they, and though he’d known it would break Peggy’s heart…he’d believed there was no other way, much as he hated the fact that she’d think him dead when their last conversation had gone so poorly.
He'd been a fool. Almost as foolish as when he’d referred to the SOE as a ‘life of adventure’- as though it hadn’t been one of the most dangerous careers in the war, but for this situation he ought to have known better than to think they’d let him go after the war had ended. They’d faked his death convincingly enough – at least, made the circumstances so that even the presumption of being dead would be enough…
Which meant he’d been effectively trapped, stuck in an organisation prepared to do anything to achieve their goals…no matter how warped those goals got.
Needless to say he's really backed into a corner here.

It's Work-in-Progress Wednesday!!!!! And I decided to write a snippet from my Thunderbirds idea (since I'm currently rewatching that). The story needs developing but I also wanted to get some scenes out of my head so this is when the ship Sheridan Ó Séaghdha (test pilot and close friend of John and Gordon Tracy) is copiloting, Starfinder One, begins hurtling towards the ground after two of its engines explode.
“Backup engines up and running!” Taryn’s voice, this time, and Sheridan breathed a small sigh of relief as their dive lessened to two thousand feet a minute. Still wasn’t great but right now that was the best they could hope for. “Taryn, what the hell just happened?” “Engines Two and Four exploded due to overload.” “Overload? But their capacity is—” “I know what it is, but that’s what all systems are saying – the automatic sensors put out the internal fire but looks like we’re gonna be lighting up the sky as we come down.” “What about ejector pods?” Henson enquired. “Mostly damaged.” Karl’s voice crackled. “You might launch one or two but I wouldn’t risk it.” “What about the passengers?” “The attendants have been trying to keep them calm but they’re gonna want to hear from you pretty soonish.” “Is there a way to slow our rate of descent further?” Her copilot asked. “Possibly, but if the other two engines explode—” “We’ll deal with that when it comes to it.” Sheridan said sharply. “Either way, if we can’t get out of this dive our landing gear’s gonna be useless.”
This story started from the idea of 'what if John Tracy answers a call from someone who knows him' because none of them make any attempt to disguise their voice , and the boys did have lives before International Rescue so probably have plenty of friends on the mainland, so there's always an outside chance of this happening, and it kind of grew from there.
One of my main obstacles to this is how the rescue is even going to play out; whether they're gonna try and ensure a safe-ish landing (like with Fireflash), try to repair what ejector pods they can, or actually attempt on-board evacuation somehow - and despite being a fan of the original show I'm not one hundred percent sure what equipment they'd use for that.
Another obstacle is that aside from this rescue I don't really have much of a plot, so still early days 😅😅

OC Introduction - Sheridan Ó Séaghdha
A twenty-five-year-old test pilot for Mercury Aerospace, Sheridan is well aware of the danger her job entails - especially given she's flying experimental spacecraft in an age where not everyone follows safety procedures as they ought to, and even though her workplace actually does, she's still had quite a number of harrowing experiences and near-misses over the last few years. But she wouldn't trade her job for anything - after all, someone has to do it and she's damn good at it.
Of course her choice of career tends to be a source of worry for her non-test pilot friends, especially John Tracy, whom she befriended at university - and whose anxiety around her career seems to have increased these last several months, though he's still supportive. Sheridan doesn't know why he's suddenly more worried, and doesn't have much time to find out after she's lined up to be one of the pilots for the Starfinder craft, which seems to go well in the initial flights and so, by all rights, it's official maiden flight ought to, and for the first half hour it does...
Until it doesn't; until two of the engines suddenly explode and the vehicle is sent plummeting thousands of feet towards the ground and the lives of the two pilots, several crew, and thirty passengers are put at risk. Sheridan immediately radios International Rescue - and gets the shock of her life when a very familiar voice answers the call for help. A shock that's shoved aside to focus on the life-threatening situation she's currently in...
But after the rescue, Sheridan certainly has a lot of questions for her friend.
